Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who will pay my medical bills?
A: First, contact your own car insurance provider to see how much personal injury protection is included in your policy.  Second, if you have health insurance, it may cover some or all of your medical expenses.  If neither of these sources are available, we can often work with doctors and healthcare providers to let them know that we are aggressively pursuing a personal injury case on your behalf and that they will be paid out of the recovery we obtain for you.

Q: Should I talk to the insurance company?
A: Not without a lawyer.  If you attempt to negotiate on your own, the insurance company will in all likelihood offer you less than what your case is actually worth.  An experienced personal injury attorney can perform a proper investigation into your case, gather evidence, consult with experts, and aggressively negotiate with the insurance company to obtain a settlement that will fairly compensate you for the damages you have suffered.

Q: Will my case go to trial?
A: Most cases settle before going to trial.  If the insurance company knows your lawyer is willing to take the case to trial if the offer is too low, it is more likely to make a fair offer during settlement negotiations.

Q: How long will my case take?
A: Without knowing the facts, it is difficult to know how long your case will take.  It also depends on whether we can reach a settlement or if we take the case to trial.  Cases usually last anywhere from six months to two years, but some cases that go to trial can take longer.

Q: How do I survive without a paycheck?
A: A serious injury that prevents you from working for an extended period creates an especially difficult situation.  While recovery in a personal injury lawsuit includes lost wages, you cannot obtain that money until the case is settled or the trial is completed.  In the meantime, creditors may begin collection actions against you or you might have trouble paying bills.  In many cases, we can inform creditors on your behalf that you cannot work, and that we are actively pursuing recovery on your behalf.  In some cases, your creditors will agree to stop attempting to collect on debts until you obtain recovery.
